Player of the Week

Joe Assenza, Nichols (Sr., OF)

Nichols outfielder Joe Assenza (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) batted safely in all four games last week, batting .500 (10-for-20) with three doubles, one triple, three RBI, and five runs scored. Assenza registered multiple hits in the three different games, including a four-hit day against Plymouth State, a three-hit performance versus Becker and a two-hit effort against MIT in Hartford.  Assenza was also perfect in the stolen base department, swiping three bags in as many attempts.

Pitcher of the Week

Bob Hamel, Western New England (Sr., P)

Western New England senior lefthander Bob Hamel (Southwick, Mass.) tossed seven strong innings in the Golden Bears’ 3-2 victory over crosstown rival Springfield on Saturday.  In his longest outing of the young season, Hamel allowed no earned runs on just six hits and one walk, while he struck out six.  Despite not factoring into the decision for the second straight start, Hamel lowered his ERA to 0.69 after 13 innings of work in 2019.

Rookie of the Week

Matt Masciadrelli, Wentworth (Fr., INF)

Wentworth freshman second baseman Matt Masciadrelli (Westfield, Mass.) batted .421 (8-for-19) over seven games as the Leopards closed out the Florida portion of their 2019 schedule. Masciadrelli collected multiple hits in three different contests, including a 3-for-4 performance in a 12-2 win in the nightcap of WIT’s doubleheader sweep of Penn State-Fayette. In seven games, the talented newcomer scored five runs, smacked a double, recorded two RBI, and added a stolen base.  Masciadrelli was flawless in the field, handling successfully all 25 chances that came his way, while talking part in four double plays.
