CCC Baseball Athletes of the Week #10

Player of the Week

Zac Nussbaum, Western New England (Jr., INF)

Western New England junior infielder Zac Nussbaum (Bridgewater, Mass.) slugged three home runs and drove in five as the Golden Bears opened the week with a doubleheader sweep at CCC rival Curry. He went 4-for-6 in the twin bill. Nussbaum closed out the week with three more hits and four RBI in a sweep at Endicott that secured WNE's CCC Regular-Season Championship with a 12-4 record. He also hit safely in a weekday tilt with local rival Westfield State. In five games, Nussbaum batted .444 (8-for-18) with an impressive .944 slugging percentage.

Pitcher of the Week

Connor Hewlette, Roger Williams (So., P)

Roger Williams sophomore right-hander Connor Hewlette (Deer Park, N.Y.) retired the game's first 18 batters and fired a one-hit shutout against CCC rival Wentworth in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader. Hewlette did not walk a single batter and struck out five over seven innings in an 11-0 victory. He was perfect through six innings before hitting a batter and surrendering a single to open the seventh, before a double play ball and a second ground out ended the game.

Rookie of the Week

Sean O'Malley, Salve Regina (Fr., 1B)

Salve Regina freshman first baseman Sean O'Malley (Darien, Conn.) batted .571 (8-for-14) with one double, two home runs, and eight RBI, while slugging 1.071 in the Seahawks' 3-1 week. He drove in two runs in each of Salve's four games. O'Malley opened the week with a 4-for-4 effort and a five-hit performance in a doubleheader sweep of Nichols. He closed out the week by homering in both ends of a split with Curry.

The Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC), founded in 1984, is an NCAA Division III athletic conference comprised of nine full member and one associate member institutions throughout the New England region. Its membership aims to provide student-athletes with a positive experience in their pursuit of excellence through high academic standards, quality competition, and a meaningful student life. The conference administers championships in 18 intercollegiate sports.
